Do good deeds and live a loving, righteous, virtuous life.
45. Do good deeds and live a loving, righteous, virtuous life, not because the laws of religion tell you to, but because you love God and you want to do these things out of your love for God and that which is His: We should want to do good things out of our love for God and out of love for the beings He created. This is what He wants for us, this is what His writings tell us. JUDAISM: Numbers: 32:24 “Do that which hath proceeded out of your mouth.” 1 Samuel: 15:22 “And Samuel said, Hath The LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of The LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.” Proverbs: 21:3 “To do justice and judgment is more acceptable to The LORD than sacrifice.” Proverbs: 16:3 “Commit thy works unto The LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.” Deuteronomy: 6:16 “Ye shall not tempt The LORD your God, as ye tempted Him in Massah.” 6:17 “Ye shall diligently keep the commandments of The LORD your God, and His testimonies, and His statutes, which He hath commanded thee.” 6:18 “And thou shalt do that which is right and good in the sight of The LORD: that it may be well with thee.” Deuteronomy: 23:23 “That which is gone out of thy lips thou shalt keep and perform;” The Talmud, Shabbat 31a. “What is hateful to you, do not to your fellow men.” CHRISTIANITY: 1 John: 3:18 “My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.” 1 John: 2:6 “He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he (Jesus) walked, (doing the works and acts that Jesus did in this life).” Ephesians: 6:6 “Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart;” We are not to do things for each other because it is what we want men to see of us, but because we love God and we love following His ways. 1 Corinthians: 9:14 “Even so hath The Lord ordained that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel.” James: 1:22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. 1:23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: 1:24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.” Titus: 3:1 “Be ready to every good work,” 3:2 “speak evil of no man, be no brawlers, but gentle, shewing all meekness unto all men.” 3:8 “This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men.” Galatians: 6:7 “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” 6:8 “For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.” 6:9 “And let us not be weary in well doing; for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.” 6:10 “As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men.” John: 14:12 “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.” 14:15 “If ye love me, keep my commandments.” 14:21 “He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.” 14:23 “Jesus – said, – If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.” 15:10 “If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love.” James: 2:14 “What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?“ 2:15 “If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, 2:16 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?“ 2:17 “Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.” 2:18 “Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.” 2:26 “For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.” James: 2:12 “So speak ye, and so do.”
